Art Hotel Osaka Bay Tower is holding a “Matcha Sweets Fair”! Matcha is a type of Japanese powdered green tea, famously grown in the Uji region south of Kyoto. As a collaborative effort with Kyoto’s Uji Tea Gion-Tsujiri, the buffet menu at Sky Buffet 51 will be supplemented with 15 types of specially prepared hotel patisseries that incorporate matcha from Uji Tea Gion-Tsujiri.

“Uji Matcha” is matcha that is made from new shoots grown in a tea garden that is covered so that the sunlight cannot get in, which are steamed, and then dried without rolling and ground into powder with a mortar. Utilizing its sweetness, its delicious taste, and its rich aroma, we are bringing you matcha mille crepes, matcha-strawberry trifles, matcha rare cheese cake, and more: these original confectioneries, which you won’t be able to try anywhere else, are available for a limited time only!

Our buffet allows you to enjoy the dishes of your choosing, in whatever volume you like. At lunchtime you can sample our hotel chef’s specialty roast beef, while at dinner the live kitchen will be preparing delicious Black Angus steak.

In this new tea-growing season, why not come and enjoy hotel-made matcha delicacies along with a dynamic view from 200 meters above ground?

Uji Tea Gion-Tsujiri
In 1860, when Japan was still under the rule of the shogun, the shop was named “Tsujiri” after its founder, Tsuji Riemon, who set up shop in the village of Uji, in Yamashiro Province (modern-day Uji City in Kyoto Prefecture), producing and marketing Uji tea. The main shop later moved to Gion in Kyoto, and changed its name to Gion-Tsujiri.

Having been in business for 150 years, operating out of the same location in the Gion quarter of Kyoto for more than 70, this venerable business sells Uji tea products and operates the Tsujiri Tea House.

This popular vendor of Japanese tea has for a long time carried on the traditions of tea, which is said to bring health and long life, while continuously inventing creative new ways to enjoy it, gaining a good reputation both domestically and abroad.
